Compassion UK – Ack Mugumo Child Development Centre

Compassion is an international Christian child development and child advocacy ministry. Partnering with local churches, they are committed to the spiritual, economic, social and physical development of children living in extreme poverty in 26 countries, enabling them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Compassion UK have now identified a small village project in Kenya where we as a church can make a real difference in not just one child’s life but a whole village’s life. Our aim is to sponsor as many children as possible in the village. We are hoping that this project will also allow us to forge a relationship with not only the children we sponsor but also with the other residents of the village.

Information on the project we are so priviliged to be able to support:

PROJECT: KE-614, Ack Mugumo Child Development Centre

Location: Mugumo, 90 km west of Meru, Kenya

80 Children to be registered in November

Your sponsored child lives on the plains of Mugumo, home to approximately 5,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and tin roofs.

The regional diet consists of maize and beans. Common health problems in this area include malaria, typhoid and amoebiasis. Most adults in Mugumo are unemployed but some work as animal herders and earn the equivalent of £1.9 per month. This community needs scholastic materials, recreation facilities and tuition assistance.

Your sponsorship allows the staff of ACK Mugumo Child Development Centre to provide your sponsored child with Bible studies, health screening, first aid training, sports, social clubs, computer training, arts and crafts and community service opportunities. The centre staff will also provide income-generating activities and fellowship for the parents or guardians of your sponsored child.
