Church of the future : Phil Pye
‘His (God’s) intent was that NOW through the church…” (Eph 3v20)
Just recently I received a copy of some comment attributed to the well respected evangelist J.John. He had been asked by an American Christian magazine to give some reflections on how he saw church in 2020, just ten years from now.
I’ll try to give a flavour of what he said:
Moral, social and financial challenges will continue to be with us.
“Churchianity” – dead religion will continue to decline steeply.
Contemporary churches, both very big and smaller will continue to grow.
There will be a fresh commitment to the Word of God.
The growth of the church will be to the backcloth of real opposition.
He concludes by saying, what is for sure is that it will not be boring!
What are we going to look to and be influenced by? The media will increasingly present a gloomy picture of the church, and in one way they will be right. But what they will miss, and we must not, is that God is at work, and not only in other nations, but ours too, building His Church. It’s His intent, don’t miss it, indeed be right at the heart of it, it will not be boring!
