It is so good to see so many people return from holidays refreshed and recharged. I am aware there are still those in church who are holidaying this month so have a great time!!

Schools are now back in, most businesses are back to normal and church is in full swing. It has been great to be able to welcome so many great speakers over the Summer into our “Sizzling Sundays” theme. We wanted to maintain a sense of purpose and direction over the Summer and am thrilled this was achieved. All the messages for both locations are available on podcast. Over the next 2/3 weeks I have requested that we do a live demo of how to download the ministry on line as I am aware there are many who are unsure how to do this – so watch this space!

The 1 YEAR BIRTHDAY of Arena Church Mansfield was fantastic – Pastor Geoff Pickup Senior Leader of New Life Derby, Pastor John Partington National Leader of AOG UK and Pastor David Shearman Senior Pastor of Christian Centre Nottingham all sent video greetings. This combined with food and drink and worship and the word proved to be a great night as we looked back whilst at the same time looked forward.

I was praying with someone today and they said it’s great to see Vision and Passion together they make great bed fellows! I thought to myself this is so true. God has a special vision and purpose for each person and every church. Once we see what God wants to do in us this should fill us with such excitement and passion. It’s impossible to have a God Vision and be miserable about it – God’s plans are to prosper us ( Fill us with Peace) and not to harm us to give us a hope and a future Jeremiah 29 v 11. This verse and its language is rich with blessing, direction and faith regarding the future vision.

Talking about Vision we are as from 18 September going to begin a “4 week series entitled VISION” at both locations. It’s important that we look again at what we, at Arena Church are called to be and stand together in this purpose and vision. God is wanting us to go to a whole new level in every area. Make sure if possible you are around to hear this series.

Please keep praying for one another. Sandie sent out yesterday a list of people to pray for lets keep mentioning them before God- This is so important!

PLEASE DON’T FORGET THIS SUNDAY AND IN THE FUTURE WE WILL BE MEETING ON SUNDAYS
ILKESTON at 10:30am and in MANSFIELD at 6pm – DONT FORGET!

As I close in this next season over the coming months we must grasp as we heard on Sunday it is all our responsibility to meet, talk, help and share with those people who are not Christians. It was a timely word we received from Pastor Gary Rucci this Sunday just gone. Let’s believe that as we “open our mouths” together the community will say “these people and their message are turning the world upside down”.

Warmest Regards

Wow what a Sunday we enjoyed! The worship and word at both locations was great!
It was great to catch up with people who have been on holiday. On a personal note it was particularly good to have Phil and Sharon back from their Summer break. I am glad they could have time to relax, reflect and recharge.
I want to take a moment to praise all the team that are on paid staff of the Arena. Some people could be tempted to look on and think working at church would be the perfect environment! Quiet, easy, slow pace, a bit of praying, lots of cups of tea! I can assure you this is not the reality. Our team do a remarkable job, always above and beyond working much longer hours than they are paid for and often with limited resources. A culture of Arena House is Honour and Praise and I pay honour to all the staff and team. Picking up on this point I also would like to thank all those people who volunteer huge amounts of time for work in the church / business / charity shops and foodbank. Church could not operate and be what it is without the sacrificial spirit of generous volunteers! I love all you guys.
Caroline, I and the kids are having our weeks holiday this week so pray for the weather! Although we are not actually going on holiday other than a couple of nights I am increasingly aware of the need to have a break. Our bodies, minds and spirits can become tired and weary. Church work / ministry is about the business of souls. One of my responsibilities is to see, to discern and to know the spirits of men. For this to happen MY OWN spirit need to be refreshed, renewed and energised.
I used to think it was good to brag about never having a day off, to never take holidays and to work 60+ hours a week as this was somehow showing how spiritually great I was. Now… I realise it was sheer stupidity. For us all to operate at our best we must work from a position of REST! So I hopefully this week will be able to enjoy lazy mornings with the smell of coffee and a morning paper whilst watching the kids play in the garden. What could be better!
Please pray for each other and can I ask that we all look out on Sundays for those who are missing. Why not  call them to say you missed them, or send them a text or a card. This Sunday again we continue with SIX SIZZLING SUMMER SUNDAYS Ilkeston at 11am and Mansfield at 6pm. We have had some outstanding ministry at both locations and this week ….. we have …………………..

well you’ll have to come and see. But it’s a man with Passion and Anointing and he has a word for the church.

As I close why not allow this to be a meditating thought for you. I hope you get the imagery…

Ephesians 2 v 4 NIV    ” but because of his great love for us, GOD, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ.
The Message reads around this same verse     “Instead, immense in mercy and with incredible love, HE EMBRACED US.”
God through his son Jesus, reached down and stood next to me – with my runny nose, ragged and stained clothes ,sin filled heart and dirty face and embraced me and showered me kisses and love.
LOVE SO AMAZING, SO DIVINE, DEMANDS MY SOUL, MY LIFE, MY ALL. . OUR GOD IS magnificent.

Love and Peace
Kind regards

It’s good to hear that the guys are back from Slovakia! I’m sure there will be some tales to tell! I am so thrilled that this year we have had people go to Albania – 3 separate teams/people, Romania x2, Ghana and now Slovakia. As well as this we have  a number of guys who are a part of Arena who have ministered into Spain and the USA. Plus we have planned trips to Hungary, Egypt and Ghana!

I am glad to be part of a missional minded, outward facing church. We must remember the words of Jesus are to GO. Not to wait, not to stop, but to GO into all the world and make disciples. Discipleship is not a 10 week course or something just for new Christians but as Eric has reminded me on many occasions it’s a journey!
This past 2 weeks have been interesting for me. On one hand they have been challenging, full of uncertainty and even at times tinged with some fears! but strangely at the same time I have never felt more alive to God, more determined to make a mark and never have I dreamed as much (watch out church I HAVE A DREAM!).
The journey that I signed up to at the age of 11 was a journey of faith. For those: full of fear – be filled with faith and courage being convinced that God is with you and is going before you. For those: full of faith, believe for your capacity to increase so that you are filled even more – God is the God of immeasurably more!
I was at the funeral service of Matthew Weaver on Wednesday. A 29 year father to 2 young boys. But what I saw was beautiful – in such loss, pain and hurt to see the family unite and then to see hundreds of church family people uphold, support, encourage this family. The church is beautiful, there is nothing like the church when faced with tragedy. Please keep praying for Matthew’s wife Sarah and her two boys and the Weaver family. Let us keep committed to each other – Loving, Caring, Praying, Encouraging. We have so many needs … but our God is able.
On Sunday at Ilkeston we have the visit of Pastor Aran Richardson from Riverside Exeter. He’s a young dynamic pastor and I am sure he will bring a great word in season. Don’t forget it starts at 11am!! This Sunday evening in Mansfield we have one of the Arena Team ministering so come and be challenged! Lets not forget to invite and bring people.

I read this week in my devotions Ephesians 1 v 17 ” I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” God desires for us to know him and for us to know him well. My pursuit of God is intense …. Only out of pursuit are we filled with POWER may we all pursue God more and more.
I love you guys our best days are ahead!
Kind regards

Important Notice For Ilkeston Campus

Important Notice From Kristian Thorpe:

Hi Gang

Firstly I must apologise for my formality. But last Sunday I announced publicly in both services that as from September 11th we will be reverting back to one service on a Sunday in ILKESTON ONLY for the foreseeable future. The new service time will be 10:30am and I was aware that there were many people who were away on holiday etc who may not have heard!

We also have taken the decision to close our monthly Sunday at 6pm so we can concentrate even more on the new 10:30am service and Mansfield at 6pm.

We are very thankful to God for those who committed to supporting these services and also those who served, helped and lead in any way!

This decision has not been taken lightly but has been carefully and prayerfully considered. There are numerous reasons behind this decision but the main factor was a desire to unite the services so that we continue to build a united family. It has also been noted that the major numerical growth seen over the past year has come predominantly through the 11am service.

Please do not be put off by chairs / car parking and space. We have carefully considered all these things and are confident that we can cater for the greater crowds!

I do hope this new service time doesn’t cause you any difficulties as we see you all as an important part of the church family. Over the Summer weeks we are continuing with one service at 11am as previously planned! THIS SUNDAY IS PASTOR DAVID SHEARMAN leader of the world renowned Christian Centre Nottingham a great friend of this house so don’t be late!

We are very thankful for all that God has done over the past few years through Sunday at 9am and Sunday at 6. We are trusting God for the next season – believing for more miracles, healing’s, salvation and significant growth in all areas as we continue with our vision and heartbeat of raising disciples and touching the world.

I pray that God will continue to bless you.

As always if you have any questions then please feel free to come back to me.

Blessings

Kristian

Only One Service This Sunday – 11am Ilkeston

Just a quick reminder that there is just ONE service this Sunday which will take place in ILKESTON at 11am.

There is no 9am service, no 6pm service in Mansfield and the Sunday at Six listed on the diary will not be taking place.

The reason for this is that after what will be a fantastic day trip to Scarborough on Saturday, we want to bring everyone from the 2 campuses together in one service.

This will be a weekend to remember! Join us, bring a friend and let’s keep believing for God to move amongst us in an even greater way.
